Salt Box Pre K – K
Our Pre- Kindergarten/Kindergarten Program, called The Salt Box School, consists of two different five-day programs. For children ages four to six years, this specialized program is located on two floors of the Salt Box building. These two, consistent attendance, small group classrooms provide individualized education as well as group work so that each child is able to pursue his/her own curiosity as well as collaborative study. Weekly field trips to local settings provide a symbiotic relationship between our local community and our classroom curriculum. Our Salt Box School individualized academic program encourages each child to attain requisite basic pre-reading and reading literacy, numeracy skill building, and a substantial appreciation for the arts and sciences – all at his/her own pace and level.
Salt Box School children and teachers begin each day with a forty-five-minute walk in Nickerson State Park. Studies show that physical challenges like this daily hike as well as and other coached activities such as swimming, basketball, and ice skating remain critical components to successful learning throughout a lifetime.
Classes in the Salt Box School meet five days per week from 8:30-2:30. Evaluation is ongoing and includes portfolio creation and collection. Extended day recreation includes outdoor play, snack, afternoon circle with books and reading, art, music, and special interest activities such as cooking and sports.
